The X850 requires a 128kb rom chip change. You can use the X800 XT REDUCED rom but you will not be able to clock the memory more than 330. So the chip needs to be changed! The card is flashed in exactly the same way as the X800. www.aqua-mac.com/x850xtpageaqua-m.htmlHere are my instructions for the X800: How to flash the Card You are going to do this flash in a mac (However if you want to back up your PC rom you will need to do that in a pc). Also the computer must be running Panther, NOT TIGER AS THIS WILL NOT BOOT WITH A PC CARD THAT HAS NOT YET BEEN FLASHED. 1.Download the X800 XT rom from strangedogs.com. It must be the modified reduced rom as the card has a 64 kb chip on it. 2. The Sapphire card has a Device id of 4A 4A. The rom for the X800 XT has a device id of 4A 48. You must use Hexeditor and change the device id in the rom on lines 3 & 8 to 4A 4A. (IF YOU ARE USING THE X850 rom, MY CARD WORKED WITH THE STANDARD DEVICE ID OF 4A 48. This can be found on lines 3 & 8 in the rom and is shown as 48 4A. You must check your device id before you do any flashing!) 3.When you have done that, save it and using Rorqual's Graphicellerator install the rom into the no confirmation flasher. It must be this one! If you are installing in a G4 you must also tape pins 3 & 11. You don't need to do this with a G5. 4.Either use a PCI graphics card with your monitor connected to this and the X800 in the AGP slot or use VNC & another computer so you can see what you are doing. If you use a PCI card bare in mind that if the card is also an ATI card it's going to get flashed as well, so this will need to be reflashed later! 5. Boot up Panther & hit the No Confirm flasher that is on your desktop. All ATI cards that are in the computer will be flashed. 6. If you are successfull, when you reboot you will see the grey Apple screen. :)When I flashed my X850Pro I did not need to change the device id.

Firstly, you have to save the PC rom in a PC IN CASE THE WHOLE THING BACKFIRES. Take it from one who knows! I am not familier with the rom chip on the 7500. Can you take a pic of the card fairly close up. I will take a pic of a X850 ROM CHIP SHOWING THE LOCATION! Now the normal way to remove a rom chip is to carefully cut it off, one leg at a time with a craft knife & throw this chip away, gently cleaning with a soldering iron the delicate solder tracks where the chip has been removed. Next I normaly solder on a brand new 128kb chip. You must note the orientation of the chip on your 850 card, if you get it 180 degrees round the wrong way it will not work. Believe you me, you must have a small tipped soldering iron & be competent at soldering. I suggest you practice as I did on some old circuit boards. I removed 40 similar chips on an old board with a craft knife before I felt I was good enough to proceed to the actual card, and I've been soldering for 35 years! Getting the old chip off is going to be the most difficult thing to do without breaking the legs. Heat & ease upwards gently around the chip. I use a tiny watchmakers screwdriver under each leg as I go round. You are probably better off flashing the 7500 card with the 850 rom while the chip is still on the 7500 card in your mac with the no confirm flasher. Email me at aquamac_mail@mac.com with the pic of your 7500. I will post after this showing the position of the 850 rom chip.

There is one other problem, that is, I flashed a X800 GT & also an SE to an XT, but you are flashing an XT. We need to know your device id & hex the rom if neccessary. You can find this out in a PC with atiflash. Remember this card is invisible to a mac untill it has been flashed. Also if the device id is wrong I have ended up having to put a new chip on again so this is quite an advanced & tricky flash, you could end up with an expensive doorstop! If all goes wrong I can fix but you would have to send it to England!!!! PS. READ RIGHT THROUGH THE STICKY X800 POST AT STRANGEDOGS TO SEE WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST! strangedogs.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=experiments&action=display&thread=1114473559

I have verified by email that you have the right chip on your 7500 & that it will be OK to use. It will be easiest to flash the 850 rom onto it while it is still on the 7500.
