It's been a while, but there is still some milage in the old MDD yet, that is if you can keep the thing cool enough!! Go here for the full story.

Aqua, Bravo! Nice to see one of these coolers in action. Is it the 9500 or the 9700? I got to handle a 9700 and that thing is huge! I had serious doubts about my MoBo having the out right strength to deal with that cooler without laying the computer on its back. What kind of temps are you seeing with it? Looks killer too Kind regards, Chris

Thanks guys, I wanted a good stable machine for my wife that wasn't too noisy and gets left on all day every day, but gets switched off at night. The cooler I used is the 9700 which is the larger of the two Zalmans, it is a bit of a beast! With the 25 mm thick 120 mm fan bolted on the inside of the case opposite the cooler, the top fins just about touch the protective grill when the case is closed, like it was made to fit in there. If I use chud tools and nap, the copper shim stays cold, so thats probably what I will do. Unfortunately, the Giga does not have a temp sensor on board, so obtaining a comparable reading is a bit tricky. I would like to give this a go on an Apple dual sometime, to get a temp reading!
Anyone know of a reliable thermometer type to use in this situation?

aquamac, Still amazing!!! Congratz. I never thought it will fit inside a MDD, because I install one for my kid's friend inside a Windows PC.
nikonnut, yes it is HugE.

Hi Gotoh & bb,
Thanks for the kind words and good to see you around again. The Zalman strikes a nice balance between price and performance. On an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4, it allowed this to be overclocked to 3.4 gigs and still ticks over at 50-60 degrees.
Gotoh,
I have been meaning to email you for some time to see how things are going, but work keeps getting in the way at the moment, another exhibition in 3 weeks! When will it all end?
Still guys, a bank holiday weekend coming this weekend which means next Monday off, woohoo!
