Hello, i am new to this fine forum and want to start with a question because i did not find a solution even after searching all around. I'm using a G5 Late 2005 (11,2) DP2,0 with a flashed xfx 7800GTX 512. All works very well but if it is possible i would like to try to flash this card to a FX4500. I know that for normal use a Quadro card brings no benefits. But it would be very interesting to get some experiences with such a professional card. My G5 is a hobby and so not every change must deliver more fps. I flashed the card with the available themacelite FX4500 PPC firmware. The flash itself (with PC) went flawless and without any error messages. But back in my G5 the card delivers no picture (tried both DVI ports) and the fan runs at full speed. My question is: Isn't my card able to be flashed to a FX4500? Are there some "mystical" nvflash parameters i don't know or are there other firmware (bios) versions existent? I hope that someone could help we with this problem. If not i will survive, but if yes i would be very happy! Kind regards

In a G5 it will not be any different to the 7800 GTX. I have benched a real Quadro against a flashed 7800 512 and the Quadro was slightly slower. I have not flashed a 7800 GTX to Quadro PPC and I don't think a rom exists. Is your card AGP or PCIe? PPC Quadro's were made in AGP and PCIe flavors. Did you flash an AGP card with a PCIe rom or vica versa?

Hello aquamac,
because it's a G5 Late 2005 my card is a PCIe version. The rom i used was found at your "themacelite" mirror:
The card itself is a PC PCIe version and was flashed by me with a great working 7800GTX512 PCIe bios. This bios and the fx4500 one are looking very similar at 99%. It tried to simply change the 7800GTX512 ID from 92 to 9D(hex), but the result was the same: blank sceen and 100% fan.
Interesting: flashed with above listed fx rom, the G5 gives me a normal startsound and seems to boot normal in the (black) background (hdd noise). No error beeps or red flashing LED's. As i said i tried both DVI connector. Both give no signal..
Maybe i could try a blind start and shutdown to see the logfiles? What are the right keys for a blind shutdown? Alt-Q? What logfiles are of interest?
So a mistake between AGP and PCIe is not the reason... Thank you very much for your support!

You may want to leave the Quadro rom completely standard and flash it onto your card leaving device id. This may work - not 100% sure. When I worked out the flash for later Intel Mac Pro I only had to change 1 memory register on one card but another just flashed straight or are you saying you tried that already?

Yes, that was my first try after getting the card. I flashed the card as described in differnt forums and the flash itself went flawless without any error. But blank screen and 100 fanspeed. I also lowered the clocks (graphiccalerator) to 430/600 with the same result. I then got a working PPC G5 bios from a very good friend and it runs very fine. I compared the two bios files with Hexedit and they seem to have the same gene library... ;D
So i think (hope) there must be a way to get this working... Thanks!

My story: I bought 7800gtx 512 for try to flash it by original PPC Quadro FX 4500 rom. But after flashing (in DOS, PC) the card displays devise ID 0095 (7800 SLI). And (of cause) does not work in Power Mac G5 - blank screens on both DVI outputs. I checked flashed rom content (by dumping) - all correct - device ID 009D, but comps (PC and mac) see 0095 instead. What the miracle? What to do? Please, help!

Did you save the original PC rom? I should flash back to the original. There was a guy called Ruby Tuesday that worked out a PPC rom for these cards over at strangedogs.proboards.com/index.cgi

OK, I know about legendary rubytuesday, but it is hard to get his help... Original PC rom was saved of cause, it flashes back without problems. And I understand now that flashing original unmodified FX4500 rom is the wrong way. Thank you Aquamac. I like your work, you have magical hands.
