Does anybody know how & by 'know how' I mean has carried out successfully, the installation of the OEM 1ghz DP card into a quicksilver 800mhz?
It certainly looked simply enough. As the logic board is a 2002 model I presumed it would be a straight swap. Unfortunately, I get nothing. The fans spin, the power button lights up and remains constant as does the red led on the logic board. However, there is no display and no chimes heard.
Have tried pram reset, pmu reset, new battery, all to no avail. Put the 800mhz card back in and it all works again.
Nobody will give me a guarantee of this upgrade working if you ask anyone selling the processors on eBay, which leads me to believe it doesn't. I've come across other people with similar experiences when Googling for answers.
Is it a firmware issue that Apple amended the logic boards that were to receive the Dual Processors in the same way that Sonnet require a firmware update? Any help would be appreciated

It should be a straight over swap. Even Apple says so. But do take into account that the 4th mounting post does need to be connected. Also on the QS boards, i noticed a 5th hole. On mine i don't have a 5th post, but the 4th post (+12V) is connected with my 1GHz cpu installed.

Same firmware supports either processor.
You must make sure the heat sink which originally came with the DP goes with the DP as the UP heat sink is different and will not cover both processors in a DP.
On QSes, only four of the screws are used, and one of these actually feeds the +12 volts to the processor card's voltage regulator section.
(When installing a QS processor in a DA, the +12 volts will have to be provided by a special cable).
The 800 MHz DP and 1000 MHz DP "raw" boards are the same. They are "stuffed" quite differently during final manufacturing. This prevents "diversion" of an 800 MHz processor to 1000 MHz.
