Hi...
I'm new to the Mac World; just built my first Hackintosh from a Kalyway 10.5.2 image, installed with this hardware:
- Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR - E8200 Core 2 Duo - 4 GB Corsair PC-6400 - EVGA GTS 250 512 MB Superclocked Edition
The install seemed to go fine, and it boots up to OS X just fine, but I can't seem to get any video resolution beside 1280x1024. So I went to execute the steps listed in this topic, using the specified GFX strings, but when I went to edit the com.apple.boot.plist file, it didn't exist. In fact, there wasn't even a SystemConfiguration folder in my Preferences folder. So I created a SystemConfiguration folder, and created a com.apple.boot.plist file in it that is exactly like the author's example, except with my out.hex string pasted into it.
On reboot, no luck...still showing only 1280x1024 in the displays section of the System Preferences tool. One other detail...I notice it says EFI v8 is required; I'm not sure what version of EFI I have, because on bootup, it says the EFI version is "ToH". Not sure what that means...
Anyway, like I said, I'm an old PC guy from way back, but really new at this stuff; any help anyone mighty be able to offer would be most appreciated.
After the video, then I gotta tackle the lack of audio! :-)
Thanks!

***UPDATE***
OK, I discovered that if I go into the Finder, enter the "Library" folder, I'm in a completely different place than if I open up the drive icon from the desktop, enter the "Library: folder THERE, and so on...I finally found the SystemConfiguration folder, and updated the correct com.apple.boot.plist file, and now I get my choice of resolutions, so that much of the puzzle is solved!
But now there a different problem...now that I'm running in 1680x1050x32 mode, when ever I click on a menu item, either from the apple menu bar at the top, or anywhere a dropdown menu appears...I get a blank menu. If I click again, then the items flash up for a split second, then the whole menu disappears. Note that, even though the menu is blank, the items on it are actually active, because if I click on the blank menu, whichever item my mouse is over is activated.
Obviously if I can't get this fixed, it's a deal-breaker. Has anyone seen this, or have any ideas on how to resolve it?
Thanks!

Install the series 9 drivers from this forum. You really need to update to 10.5.6 but you can try the series 9 drivers. The reason you have this problem is because your card is much more recent than 10.5.2. Download

Thanks so much! I'm downloading the 9 Series Installer now.
As for the upgrade to 10.5.6...I was hoping to do just that, but I haven't been able to find a 10.5.3 Combo Update on BitTorrent yet...no one seems to be seeding it these days.
It's my understanding that 10.5.3 is the bridge to 10.5.4 which can be installed from the straight Apple download. I havent' thought beyond that yet. :-)

Oh..one last question; since I'm on a GTS 250 vs the 9800GTX, would n't I need to change the device ID?
Thanks!

Fail...regrettably, the Series 9 Installer requires 10.5.5 to install. :-(
I guess I really need to find my way to 10.5.3 somehow now...are you (or is anyone) aware of any alternative sources besides Bitorrent for the 10.5.3 Combo Update?

I have a question: I'm new to the forum and as I understood it, aqua has come up with a way to make twin Geforce 8800 GTX to behave as a FX 5600. I have a EFI-X hackintosh, and although FX 5600 is not officially supported, I'd like to try building a system with twin 8800 GTXs and getting them to work as a FX 5600. Is this possible? Do you get the benefits of a real FX 5600 with this hack?

GFX Strings Walkthrough (single cards only - go here for multiple cards) You may well want to print out these instructions first and go over the procedure first!Download one of the GFX Strings that matches your card, then follow the walkthrough! Right then, GFX Strings. ... Files for Quadro FX 4600 768mb cards: Click to Download... Hi, I'm new to this forum (so maybe I'm missing something), but I'd like to use my Quadro FX 4600 card with chameleon (at the moment it is recognized using EfiStudio 1.1 as a 8800 GTS). Unfortunately the file mentioned by aquamac (see quote above) is not available anymore (dead rapidshare link) - where can I get it from? Thanks a lot, regards, Doc

Hi everyone,
I'm a noob here.
There is a used evga 7300 GT 256mb that I can buy.
What are your thoughts on this card running a vanilla installation starting at 10.5.1 + updates?
Is it fully functional through DVI with rotation?
Thanks

doccoop,
I fixed the link, Download from Page 1 of this thread.
Satori,
This card should work fine, though will give fairly basic graphics, depends on what you are doing. If you are using mostly thr internet, then it will be fine. Not so good for gaming though.

OK, aquamac, could you please help me with me 10.5.6 install with a 9800GTX, all works except QE/CI. I have followed your guide closely and when you say 'One more thing, if you have a 512 card or a 768 mb card as I do, you have to insert Total ram size int your in.plist file with XML editor just like in nvinject." Is the Property List Editor an xml editor? Currently it says the vram value is '00000020', should I change this to '00000512'?
EDIT: OK, this is bad, I restarted and now it just says I just have a 32mb PCI-Express video card and I can only set me res to 1024x768.
I have to undo everything now.....
Note: Before, Everything worked except Quartz Extreme!
OK, I've had to repair permissions as I couldn't even boot...
Things are all to normal now 9800GTX DDL recognised... So, please tell me: How do I get Quartz Extreme to work??
Please help! Can't get erection without Quartz Extreme!!!

Hello aquamac, thank you for running such a great site My situation: I have a GeForce 9600 GSO with 384MB RAM I have installed your 9000Series installer. What strings would I need to add to get this video card working? (It's not in the list) In System Profiler it currenlty shows no device under Video, VRAM at 32MB and Extreme Quartz disabled. Just adding this, I don't know if it's important. Thank you very much for your help and great work! P.S. I would be very grateful if you could look at my other post, as well: aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=osx86problems&thread=870

Same problem here. Now, after 10x installs, i can use Cover flow. I use the iPC 10.5.6, Vodoo kernel and 9800NVInject. My card recognizes like a 9800GTX DDL, no lag in Safari and CoverFlow ok. 1280x1024 resolution on my 19 CRT monitor. The only problem are the QE/CI not enabled. I have a 9800GTX Point of View SC. Try all the installers, try the GFX Strings, nothing happens.
