Thanx! :-) It's changed a little. . . I took it apart as my powerbutton stopped working.. I was able to re-route the PCI-X leads and use my PSU cover. I'm gonna wait for my MacPro shroud and DSLR before i post any more images.

Hey, don't take it personally Joe, you did a great job, it's not always easy being creatively different. Ok, it doesn't look like a straight Mac Pro, but in a room full of Mac Pro's, I know which one I would make a bee line for!

I saw that post from whats-his-name....
Sure, i will admit, it's a little odd looking, but you have to admit, apple didn't make it functional for radiator support. Even the G5's with their rads blew goats. Look at all the power supplies and cpu's that got fried because of apple's neglect. What you created still has the look of what apple intended, but you had to accommodate for the water cooling. If you can't stick it in the front or back, what do you have left, go for the top. Even if it's on the outside.
So who cares what Mr. so-and-so said, create it to the way you like it.
3 thumbs up

Cheers guys, I didnt take is personally. It's odd why ppl would post a comment that adds nothing but is intended to offend.
I completed the Stock Mac Pro look with Air cooling and wanted to push it in a different direction with water cooling. I'll agree with you redragOn it is odd looking.. I'm not happy with its current external look. But the only option is to go further away from original.
I intend to keep the Apple look and just put a heavy personal tilt to it. The case is going in for a powder coat once i settle on a color scheme.
Thats for all your support.

I need your opinions lads... My Mac Pro is getting a professional paint job It's being sent off to the fellas at ChilledPC for some TLC. Now here's my thinking.. I moved it away from the total stock look on purpose, I had too.. I wanted certain hardware which made it impossible to mount internally and performance was what i was after.. The problem with that is... it now looks like a MacPro with a Rad strapped to the top, which is no bad thing but ppl dont see the why and just think its mangled Mac Pro. Now I've created a shroud thats almost like a cover for the rad. It currently has a blank down one side that I'm going to get my Handle or a name for the project Lasercut out of it. have LEDs in the TFC shouds and light the Rad/shroud/fans thus by glowing whatever i get cut into my 'Cover'. Its getting a paint job for two reasons.. I've had the case for a couple years and its got its dings and bumps and the Alu has also oxidized in places leaving patches that make it look dirty. and finally to justify the watercooling modifications to the case. By giving it a trully unique paint job ppl will stop pregnant doging and see it as a MOD not a MacPro. so what colour do i go for? This is where i need your help.. I'm currently waiting for a quote and a list of my finish options.. www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=36&osCsid=6796a892fd484f26eb32d4b3e604e77ePowder coating, Anodising, Spraying and Chroming are what they do and the end results are stunning.. I want to retain the clean cut look of the orginal MacPro so i want solid colour rather then flames and gold leaf or design work. Its a mat silver Alu now so i wish to just change the WHOLE thing to another colour or maybe two colours if i find the right look. old image but thats all the parts numbered each will be a separate part thats painted.. So what do you think? suggestions? Right now I'm thinking Metallic Black high gloss finish black with the Apple logo laser etched back on the side panals after. thats inside and out all one colour making it blend and allowing all the lighting to reflect internally. Thats a powder coated black... that sort of thing.. Other thoughts are charcoal, Gun metal, Nickel (dark grey) or a shade of Red deeeeep red. But Blacks the front runner.. I'm very interested to hear your suggestions.. Sorry for rambling.. I have a hangover from hell! J.

I'd say either gun-metal or black. I had a Ford Taurus SHO that I painted the wheels gun-metal. Then I took the same paint and painted a black CRT monitor which looked great. It was just some spray paint from the local auto parts store, but it still came out looking good. I think a gun-metal powder coat will look great on the mac-pro case. I'd even consider it for mine, even though I did go with the stock look (other than a window and a radiator on the back). If anything, the gun-metal will stay somewhat true to what apple would have done as it is a kind of matte color, though just a different shade.
I'm not saying gloss black wouldn't look great too. Not really digging the deep red idea though. Charcoal and Nickel are similar to the gun-metal idea and I think they'd be fine too.

I heard back from Tom at chilledPC and he's saying my best foot forward is spraying.. not powder coating.. He says he'll be able to build up the metallic finish with better paints over the results given by powder. He mentioned thou that because of spray it'll make the joins tighter (when re assembled) as such i should only get parts visible sprayed. So that's got me thinking.. what about spraying everything other then the centre case??? So the solid piece of ALU with the four handles and side panel + custom shroud get the Metallic Black gloss finish, leaving the centre of the case the mesh part (front and back) top and bottom in the Alu look. But have all the internals done in black too? so when you open the side door its a stock look internal BLACK finish with the UV and Blue glowing lighting up the insides ... so.. 1- 8 and 10, 12 get the metallic finish and 9, 11 The two parts that make up the centre mesh remain.. Now honest lads??? will that look poo? there is nothing stopping me doing the whole thing.. or none... thoughts? J.

I think it'd look pretty good. It's kind of like what Cyprio started with, but he did the reverse, then polished all of the aluminum that was left. I kind of think it'd look better all one color, but that's up to you. masking isn't hard to do, so you could avoid spraying the joints. I'm curious as to why they wouldn't want to use powder though. Is it because of all of the nooks and crannies? I do know from reading Cyprio's thread that painting the center section is a "bag of hurt" as you have to clean out every hole in the mesh. I would think that powder wouldn't do this, but honestly I don't know.
In summary, I think you should go with a single color, but if you don't want to or can't clean the holes in the mesh, then do the two-tone.

Cheers BlackKnight,
I've gone off the idea all together now.. i've decided to concentrate on my shroud using the MacPro side panel to make it look more of an add on then a rad bolted to the top and I'm adding my GPU to my cooling loop.. BUT not by going through the RAM cage! ;-)

Well, I'm really looking forward to what you're planning on doing with the shroud. I still don't quite understand what it is you're doing, but it sounds promising. I think if you hide the rad, that your responses from other users will be much nicer. I'm all for doing what you want as you're the one who has to look at it all the time. I do think that Apple made a beautiful case design, but that doesn't mean that it can't be improved. I think Apple should have done two things (and maybe they still can): 1) build a desktop system based on the standard LGA775 (or AMD) Core i7 that fits in a smaller case than the Mac Pro and 2) make it be user upgradable. Apple doesn't seem to think there should be a middle ground between the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro.

Blackknight was it you that fitted a dual rad into the front fan bracket/cage?? or was it Shaanky98?
I'm adding another rad I'm gonna go with the ThermoChil PA120.2 (I use the 120.3 up top) because its dual pass rad I'm gonna have to use Snyths new slim 120mm fans but in order to see if it fits in the casge I was wanting to see how you did it.
