Hello all,
I wanted to share a problem I had last week with an ati Firegl X3 I bought for my G5 and ask if someone here has a solution.
Before starting the flashing process, I checked in system spec (Apple menu) through VNC and the Firegl was shown in graphic card tab. Then, I used Graphiccelerator through VNC with the X800 XT rom (and modified with Hexeditor) available on the macelite wiki. I used "Run me first" as required and "ATI Multi Flasher Tool" but at the end of the process, an error message appeared. When I rebooted my computer, the graphic card was no more shown in system spec and I can't access to it with ATI Flasher Tool (the app opens and quits automatically).
I think the graphic card is dead but I wanted to ask before if you had some advice/idea regarding this problem.
Thanks in advance for your help!

misterfox,
I am pretty sure you need to fit a 128 kb rom chip to the card before flashing. Was the rom you flashed onto the card 64 kb or 128 kb?

You have flashed a 128 kb rom onto a 64 kb rom chip. You need a 128 kb rom chip and to solder it onto your card. You can then re-flash. Unfortunately, once you have flashed a 128 kb rom onto a chip, the card is no longer recognised and sometimes, your computer will not even boot. I have the correct rom chip for this card if you are interested. Soldering is quite a delicate job though. You have to cut the old chip off (I use a scalpel) then remove the remains of the legs with a soldering iron. You can then solder on a new one. Best to practice on an old circuit board on similar size chips - beleive me, the traces on most cards are very weak and are easily damaged.
You can then re-flash the card.
Good Luck.

Hi,
I want to say thank you for your quick answers. I understand it will be now hard to solve my mistake... Which rom I should have used to flash this card? Moreover, I have a PC there but it's a bit difficult to see what I'm doing without graphic card. Should I put a PCI card and try to re-flash the card or it won't work anyway?
Again, thank you very much for all your answers.

If your PC hac integrated video card, you can use it to output video, otherwise you need a PCI card. First try 64k ROM I've linked. Requires no soldering If it will fail for some reason, try method I've linked there: http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?b....ead=1375&page=1
If it all will fail - replace EEPROM if you have proper one and needed soldering skills.

Thank you for your help! I bought another GPU and this time I managed to flash the card with the rom you sent to me. But now I have another problem .. GPU is working and my screen turns off but everything is gray (with some red) as you can see on the attached picture. Any idea to solve this issue?
Thank you again

NP that's what forum is for. Check your system preferences now and see what new settings for display was added with ATI Display Utility. Now it supports pivot and some more
