Well I knew there would be issues, but oh boy.

Updgraded my GTX 285 2GB model to a GTX 295 Co-Op due to reading the posts at this forum about a guy getting it going in a Mac Pro so I figured I shouldn't have too many issues. At the very least getting one half of the card to work even if both GPU's weren't recognized. The thread is here...

So where I am now is trying strings with no luck and same with ATY_Init and Natit. Haven't tried an NVEnabler yet but the board shows up with one GPU correctly listed and the other in "Slot 1" as unknown.

Problem is I can only get 1280X1024 with no QE/CI.

Any suggestions oh super mega awesome Aquamac?

Had some issues about a year back with a 9800GTX and was eventually solved with some help from the gurus in the community (i.e. not me) but feel a graphics headache coming on.

Won't give up though, with OpenCL this situation is bound to change. Multi GPU support from Apple should be a no brainer. Right? Right?

You will also have to redo the location paths anyway (REDO STRINGS FROM SCRATCH) as dual board cards have extra an bridge in the way and have much longer pci addresses. Some boards like my Gigabyte DQ6 will not work with a dual card although it is fine with 2 actual cards as long as you boot from the second PEG 2.

Don't mess with any injector kexts - I have not come accross one yet that will work 2 cards properly. Your going to need Vista or Win 7 to get both PCI addresses and Leo to do the strings as the software will not work with snow although the fixed com.apple.boot.plist will work with Snow.

Well I have an EX58-UD5 and I know I need to do the strings from scratch but this is the one PCB co-op 295 so I believe that makes a difference in me not having to go slot 2 and all.

I saw a screen cap where the guy went into Windows to get the PCI Root of each GPU and kind of figured I would have to do that. Not a prob, just have to reboot.

Thanks I need it. Even with great guys like you, netkas et al to help. Should have kept programming after 15 instead of going the pure computer graphics route. Too old to shift gears at 40 tho. CG is my thing but I am trying to find time to get better at scripting, etc. So much of the concepts of what we're doing code wise in this scene I "get" but don't have the chops to implement. So thank God for guys like you! And XML plists. hehehehe

I am still only at 1 screen, no QE/CI 1280X1024.

Not using any injectors, and just the stock NV* and Ge* kexts with the devid changed in NVDANV50Hal.kext to 0x05eb10de&0xfff8ffff. I also do not have Graphics Enable = yes on either.

Hope to hear back, until then it's hack and reboot, hack and reboot.

I am pretty sure this is not going to work without putting the card in Slot 2 period. That is just the way it is on some boards and Gigabytes especially. Try as I may, I could never get a 9800 GX2 going on my X48-DQ6 even though I got it going on 3 other boards.

2nd thing: Making GFX Strings in Snow Leopard will not work. Snow outputs the wrong code. Compare it to the code Leopard puts out and they are different - so it will never work untill GFX strings code is updated to work with Snow Leopard. You will get what you got but will never get QE & CI.

So, remake your output file only in Leopard (Snow Leopard is fine for updating the input file). Try with Slot 1 to start with, if that does not work, try in slot 2 with updated PCI addresses.

EDIT: Duh. Just need to run the gfxutil on Leo so my MB Pro will do just fine.

Looks like I will be installing Leo on this bad boy after all. Was going to but opted to not. Will be installing on a little 250GB drive I have and then doing as you suggest. Would like to keep it in slot 1 (not sure why I guess it's the "idea" of using slot 2 being just wrong hehe) but once I get it going in Leo then I will be good in SL and at that point I don't care what slot it's in.

Thanks Aqua. You have been a big help.

Will keep you posted on results.

BTW, is that why my PCIRoot shows the 3 value instead of 1? It wants to be in slot 2?

If you are saying that I can't even do ./gfxutil -f display in SL and get a proper string back, then I am definitely going to need to put Leo on this machine.

If the PCIRoot from gfxutil is correct in SL which is now in SLot 2....

PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x7,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)

And I then take that info as well as the NVCAP values from IORegistryExplorer (again in SL) and then build my out.hex file in Leo...

And it still doesn't work, then I must...

INSTALL LEO ON THIS SYSTEM AND GET THE STRING THAT WAY!

Right?!?!?!?!?! Argh.

If installing Leo lets this work then so be it. Lost count but that will make the 1,228th time I have installed OS X. Or somewhere around there. Sometimes I do it for fun's sake alone. Not.

No need to install Leo if you already have it on your Macbook Pro. You can get the PCI addresses in Snow Leopard no problem, it is only the output file that Snow Leopard messes up. Just do the output file in Leo. The PCI location path address is always longer on a dual card as there is an extra controller bridge between the graphics chip and slot.

When I make the plist in Leo and bring it over, I take out the ATY_Init kext, rebuild caches, put it in com.apple.boot.plist in the Extra folder, and restart.

End up with same situation, 1280X1024, 1 screen, no QE/CI.

What oh what great Aqua am I missing?

EDIT: I used Cham RC3 instead of PC-EFI 10.4.3 from netkas so I would not have any other enabler in the loop. Not sure if that was a great idea or not, just trying to remove "other" factors.

EDIT2: One more weird thing is Preview won't even allow me a screen grab! Blank image when capping a window, and trying entire screem crashes. Was going to show you my IOReg but, there it is.

Thanks bud, will be nice when I can work on this machine fully. Only been built for three weeks, have been fighting RAM problems which will be solved witha replacement kit this week.

Here you go - This is your input and output file (for ref), and a fixed com.apple.boot.plist for slot 2 only based on the PCIe addresses that you gave me:

Thanks for bearing with me on this but I am still having issues, the same one. Can only get 1280X1024 1 screen no QE/Ci. I deleted ATY_Init, and have the GeForce and NV* kexts in S/L/E along with the dev id changed in NVDA--50 and NVDAResman kext to 0x05eb and the System Profiler shows all is fine spec wise.

Tried it with your string and then redid it as the NVCAP I get with ATY_Init not loaded is different. When ATY is loaded it shows up as GFX@0 and when not loaded it shows up as display@0, and the NVCAP's are different so I brought the edited plist over to my MBook Pro and redid them.

Both give me the same result. I have an Asus 24" 1920X1080 display and a 40" Samsung 1080p set, both had no probs connecting with three other units so I am almost positive it is not the displays.

As for the system itself through this I even reinstalled the 10.6.1 update to clear the S/L/E folder of EVGA kexts, and I have no injectors that I know of in S/L/E or /Extra. I did install CUDA and just deleted the kext and will reboot after this msg but just to be on he same page, here is my revised in.plist, again just NVCAP and NVPM values changed.

I really am a bit thrown, the last time I had this prob was a while back with a 9800GX2 and that was solved but Lord help me I can't recall how at this point. Something with nvInject and Natit I believe.

You are a true gentleman for putting up with/helping me.

Where doth we venture from here? A fresh SL Install? Say it ain't so.

EDIT: In case it matters, Sys Profiler shows the first 295 Instance at PCIe Slot 5a and the 2nd at PCIe Slot 5 if that means anything.

The two NVcaps will be different, there should be no need to change them from the ones I used. Can you put up a grab of system profiler?The reason you are seeing PCI Slot 5 & 5a is because that is how I set the in.plist. It is purely cosmetic.

I used the hex values for the ROM revision in IOReg Exp so that may be wrong in the hex. When ATY_Init was loaded it came back netkas.org of course.
