NVIDIA 9800 GTX Working in OSX86
« Thread Started on Apr 11, 2008, 11:22am »

Got a NVIDIA 9800 GTX 512 Working in OSX 86! :D

Download these Kexts:

http://rapidshare.com/files/106584355/aquamac.zip.html

and this version of NVInject:

http://rapidshare.com/files/106592273/NVinject.kext.zi p.html

**THE ABOVE VERSION OF NVINJECT DOES NOT ALWAYS GIVE QE or CI ON SOME KALYWAY INSTALLS. IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, GO HERE AND USE GFX STRINGS INSTEAD, MAKING SURE THAT YOU REMOVE ANY TRACE OF NVINJECT OR NATIT!**

You need to swap these kexts into your Extensions folder. You may need to delete the original kexts as opposed to just replacing first on some of them. You must then run this permissions repair script -See Below:

PermissionsLink

Let it run till finished, it takes a while.

Then Delete the Extensions.mkext and reboot.

You will regain your translucent menubar your drop down menus.

EDIT:

Dashboard now works perfectly!

The card is currently using the 8600 GTS open GL Engine but this does not hurt performance. We will probably have to wait for 10.5.3 for that to be fixed.

Well I don't know really but interestingly enough, in Open GL Extensions Viewer, the scores are in the 4000 FPS (See my first post) area whereas the 8800 GTX 768MB scores 2700 FPS. So maybe by some strange twist of fate, OSX drivers favor the 9800 GTX 512MB. On the same system 8800 GT 1024MB scored 2400 FPS.

You only get a ripple when you launch a new widget. Do you not get one when you do that?

EDIT: Check your mail! I sent you a com.apple.Boot.plist. Just swap it with your current one.

Do you have all the most recent updates installed and 10.5.2 Graphics update installed? The only other difference is I am using GFX strings. I would send you my GFX strings file but it will not work on a GA 33M-DS2R because I am running this card on my Asus P5K3 Deluxe. However if I send you my input file, you only need to change the bit that says:

<key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

TO

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

As this is the location of your PCIe slot. On my Asus it is the third slot down as there are 2 PCIe x1 slots above it. The info in it is already set for a 512 mb card.

You have to remove NVInject. I tell you what, I will set it to what I think and mail it to you.

Awesome!!! Especially for a newb to the Mac scene....
Any possibility I can get some help on a MSI Nvidia N9500GT 512MB with DDR3 memory? I was just getting into the Mac scene when I replaced my 6600GT and now it's a battle.....
Hoping Aquamac is up for the challenge since I cannot find a 8800GT to buy anywhere in this remote country (South Africa).
