Hi aqua mac ,
Yes After finish the setup and restart the pc and os x start as normally and show me thw welcome message in different language but I say the system hang when I just select the input language .
when I click on option in install process I don't have any word about semthex kernel , wrong DVD ?

I got my G5 case today. Has some scratchs on one side but not a big deal.Is really completed wit all cables ans fans and even the sensors. The case is too beautifull and I will never dare to cut it. I will sell my G4 MDD and assemble a G5.

I do agree with you. But buying part after part give more time to finish the project, so you do not need the all budget from the beginning . The dual 2 Gig is about 1500 euro now and the dual 2.3 or 2.7 Gig is about the 2000 euro. The MOBO or the Procs are about 500 euro each, the PSU around 200 euro plus the Ram, I come around the 1500 euro . The other parts I have some spare of. It is doable within 6 months.

As I've posted over at Strangedogs, I'm gonna build a Hackintosh (parts have started to arrive ). I've decided to go for a dual boot solution (OSX and XP Pro). My question is how do one avoid one or the other OS to insist on reformatting the drive(s) (SATA) belonging to the other OS?

Hi Brainman,
I guess one option is to use two seperate drives. This is always my personal choice. If you hit F8 at startup you get the boot menu selector, choose your drive and boot to the operating system of your choice. There is lots of info on the insanelymac wiki that tells you how to dual boot. I am only running Vista under VMWare Fusion. I only use it for the few editing facilities not available for mac.
Let us know how it goes and always interested to see some pics or details of hardware.

I figured separate drives was the way to go, so I ordered two 160GB, one for each system, and two 250GB 'Document' drives. In addition I have around two TB in external storage. If everything goes well, I'll be up and running by next weekend . I'll post a full "review" with pictures and benchmarks when I'm "finished" (but we'll never finish, will we ?)

Has anyone tried using a Asus
P5N32-E SLI Plus as a Hackintosh?
I've got the Hackintosh bug especially since I shelled out a lot of money for my Quad G5... Still a sweet machine in my book, but d**n Hackintoshes fast.
Besides having a lot of G4 is my house (4 actually) and almost no PC (not real PCs) beside unless you consider my original Xbox a PC... I'd like to build a multi-boot PC/Hackintosh. How difficult is it to install 10.4? What do I need to do it? Any help would be great!

Hi racerblur, this is not going to be an easy install. I have a striker extreme motherboard that also has the 680i chipset, and I have not been able to get this going yet. However from what I can find out you may be able to get this working with a different install than Semthex. Go to Insanely mac and type 680i chipset into search, there are a couple of people who have got this going natively. But there are many easier options out there. eg 945, 965, 975 chipsets.

Either of my hacks would be sucking in the wake from a Quad G5 in a race. Having said that, I did build the cheapest (at the time) Core 2 Duo system I could. I used a budget 945 chipset M/B (£40 GBP), the slowest C2D available £100, cheap generic high latency DDR2 533MHz memory £37, etc... About £350 total on new stuff for the iHack!, pretty good bang for buck but not as fast as a Quad G5.
The one advantage any core 2 duo hack has over the G5 is the ability to run Windows at near native speed in a virtual environment. A sweat trick if u need it.
Ok it's begun. I've purchased a Badaxe d975xbx motherboard for fairly cheap (fairly) - And I bought a case -- one 500 gig sata hard drive and a 160 from my G5 and one left over 7800 pcie -- is there any pitfalls that I should know about? I'll post details when everything starts coming in... tried keep shipping as cheap as possible... but I wanna good performer too... we'll see how it goes... that's for all the help. Hackintosh is coming!
