Hello everyone, I managed to flash my Geforce 275GTX to a Quadro FX4800 using the Hewlett and Packard FX4800 bios rom. I installed the Quadro drivers successfully and I GPU-Z is showing the appropriate corespeed. Odd is that the amount of used memory is higher than on a normal Quadro FX4800. However the results I'm getting with Viewperf benchmark are disappointing, the card scores less then 10% of what real FX4800 scores in reviews. I checked the maximal corespeed during the tutorial and made screenshots, it shows that the corespeed is way to low... this could be because of a powerissue on my computer (PSU delivering too little power for the card). So it would be great if others would try to flash their 275's to 4800FX and checked it. I attached the 4800 FX ROMfile I used, J Edit: Ok these are definitely PSU problems, I have 500Watt PSU and the FX4800 is running in safety mode. I'm getting a 1200Watt PSU nextweek so the problem should be fixed, I will keep you guys posted on the results. Attachments:

Thats strange, the GTX275 is more closely to FX 5800 (240 core both) the FX 4800 has 192 cores like GTX260 65 nm . If you read my post here ( Maryusosx is me, post 65) www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=134631&view=findpost&p=1368698 you'll also need to patch the driver too and that is the most difficult part of modding. Bios mod is not enough. I also want to try your bios, is it safe? What model do you have, I have GTX275 1792 MB Gigabyte with a VGA, DVi and HDMI port. Can you test maya 2011, I can give you some scene (the bike scene and others from guru3d and insanelymac post). Do you also try OSX Snow Leopard. Currently I have SnowOSX Universal from hazard installed and updated to 10.6.3. Sorry for too many questions : )) but I'm very happy to see the GT200 mod finely done . I guess for OSX the FX 4800 bios is more familiar than FX 5800. Well done!!! Regards Maryus3D.

Ah that driver patching thing is completely new for me^^ however I would ofcourse have come to notice low benchmarking, sadly enough like I said the Quadro driver is a bit more precise about demanding enough PSU power and has put the GPU in safety mode. Where the geforce drivers would just accept that there was a shortcoming in power and the computer would crash during the more demanding processes. Anyway this was unacceptable so I ordered a new PSU and untill I get that PSU I can't do any real benchmarking on my own (probably get it on tuesday). 1. My GPU is a: Club3D Geforce 275GTX 1792MB DDR3 Ram. The clockings were exactly precise to your geforce, that was the main reason I decided to give the flash a try. Once I can use my computer again I will post my bios here, but I also posted it online with Nibitor under Geforce 275GTX. Further the card has 2 DVI outputs and a SLI port on the side; it looks like a quadro FX4800 but then in black with geforce on the side. 2. I believe that the main reason that the FX5800 is impossible to flash without artefacts so far is because of the lack of memory. Were talking about a very sick card here (FX5800) and I believe there is no mainstream geforce GPU vendor who uses 4gigs of DDR3 on it's 275/285GTX. Whether this can be compensated by bios editing I'm not sure... 3. Once I have the new PSU I will post all Viewperf/furmark and any other benchmark you can give me. I'm working on installing OSX Snow Leopard on my pc, but I'm still a noob at that:P I'm really a windows user who got lured to these fora because of the groundbreaking work on GPUbios flashing. So more testing when the courier arrives on tuesday, and ofcourse I will try to patch the driver then. Thanks for the feedback, J

Thank you for all you've done . To bad for the PSU . Any way, you just flash the card with the original FX 4800 bios without modifying anything inside it? The FX bios contain lower clocks speed, donno exactly why, and this may cause lower score to some CUDA application and games but for 3D software especially OpenGL based like maya shouldn't be a problem. Once we have a good patch for the driver the preference will increase at least 300%. About the clocks, to give the CUDA performance back, I guess MSI afterburner will do the trick or Xtreme Tuner Overclocking Software which can modify the clock speed inside the bios automatically through windows or something like that.

Yeah the bios is the unaltered HP FX4800 bios, I found that when you alter things to the HP FX4800 bios with Nibitor and you save it again the file becomes empty... (I mean empty clockspeeds etc.) With the HP FX5800 I had the same problem btw, altering this one gives all kinds of errors when opening the newly saved file with Nibitor. Maybe building a new bios just like the HP one and then upping some clockspeeds would work, but I really don't wanna do that if it isn't necessary considering the flashing risks and all. As for the clockspeeds: Exactly my plan! I think that the 275GTX is a something inbetween a the equivalent of a 4800 and an 5800 FX quadro. I read some reviews of the FX4800 GTX and it is supposed to be easily overclockable on standard cooling to 720 Mhz GPUclock. My guess is that considering that the 275GTX has more cores and is altogether more modern than the FX4800 it is possible to overclock it even further. However without a proper PSU overclocking is impossible since it is impossible to override the Nvservice that controlls the safety mode my GPU is placed in, because you would stop the driver by doing that and thereby making overclocking impossible. But once I got my new Powersupply all the action can begin man I can't wait to see some results!

Ok I have my new PSU, sadly enough the nvidia energy warning is still present... I really don't get it, I tried to change the bios voltages to 1,18V like on the FX4800 that didn't work. Then I tried some different drivers, which also didn't help the problem. I even tried to change the Thrtl clocks in nibitor but that didn't work either.
Anyone have any ideas how to get my card working at full speed?

What PSU do you have? I guess that is a bios error... maybe.

Heey maryus, I'm sorry about the late response, I'm really busy with my final exams^^ Well the voltage levels are just a bottleneck, they keep me from succesfully changing the 275GTX to a 4800FX. I think it has something to do with the fact that the FX4800 has 1 PCI-EXPRESS power connector (so does the 5800FX) and the Geforce all have 2 PCI-EXPRESS power connectors for the 260GTX and up.
So no succes sofar, I haven't got an idea how to change the bios in a way that it could work, so if anyone has idea's please post^^
Best of luck

I'v finaly tried the FX 4800 bios (also been busy with the final exam) and it still give me artefacts like FX 5800 bios . I can't beleve it.

Hi devil99, The brand of my videocard is Club3D, and like I explained above I can't do any benchmarking yet because the videocard has voltage issues with the FX4800 BIOS. The nvidia drivers just make the card run in safetymode when voltage levels aren't good. To answer your final question: I believe the VRT is set to 83 degrees Celsius with the original 275GTX bios, I'm not sure however I'd have to check.
Thanks for showing interest in this topic,
J

I have managed to flash my GTX 275 bios to a Quadro FX 4800 and the card is now stuck in safe mode. Any progress on getting the GPU clock back up to 600Mhz?
