also, I'm having some trouble reading the second diagram, the colors in the front panel board represent what (black and red)? Pin 1 and 42 connect to the negative side of the power led and power s/w but does the positive side of the power led and power switch connect to 44 and 3? If not why is 44 and 3 over top of the botton, let me know, im confused and have my computer all torn appart.

In the first power-led diagram, 1 represents power LED and 42 represents power-switch. The middle/black box represents the earth/ground. Check your motherboard manual and see which is the ground on the Motherboard power sw and led connectors. You can wire the ground(s) to any of the 3, 9, 12, 14, 15, etc. front panel pins. Hope that helps

so this last diagram that was posed, red is ground and black is positive? Im not quite understanding the power led and power s/w part of the diagram, does the positive and ground connect together? And what does 40(common) mean exactly?

Just to confirm - I tried Artshapers diagram wiring on a asus p6x58d-e. His connections are perfectly accurate. Power, led and USB working.
Anybody think they can get the firewire working?

Firewire continuity test the only pins that show continuity for the firewire ports are (according to the numbering in the pdf) pins 16 and 30. To be clear, that's 7 from the left on the bottom row, and 8 from the left on the top. They connect to pin 6 of each firewire port. (Pin 16 connects the bottom firewire port.) assuming this scheme: 56789 4321
Am I correct in assuming that would be the pin for the power? Perhaps after supplying voltage to that pin and connecting the grounds, the data pins could be figured out? Anyone have any ideas?
On the Apple front panel board, pins 5 and 8 of the firewire ports are connected to the ground.

by the way, on that ide adapter above: watch out on the bottom left-most pin. The adapter itself has that pin soldered to both top and bottom pins 2nd from the left! You can remove the rubber sheath and see what is going on there.

The FW ports are not pass through. The TI TSB81BA3D chip you see on the board is a 3-port FireWire PHY chip. It Acts like a hub - so you have a few lines off that chip that end up going to your 44 pin connector - that's they connection to your FW port that you need to figure out... The two front panel ports are driven from the TI chip...

Are there any updates on this? Anyone manage to get Firewire 800 working? I don't really care about the sound, Just power (obviously), Firewire (essential for me and very handy to have access to on the front) and USB. I'm wanting to build a system soon and before i start i want to know everything will work so that (hopefully) i only have to be inside the case once, or a minimal amount of times Thanks for your help mrmeister
