You will need one of these to plug into your power supply:

Thie other end of the lead can then be soldered to a 3 pin socket that is epoxied into the case. Use Araldite rapid, it is amazingly strong!

I removed screws from the bottom of my power supply, found some longer ones and screwed through the shelf. The shelf is double skinned so you need the drill bigger holes in the first skin so the screw heads disappear through, otherwise your HDD's will not slot in.

PS. I still have not found the pinout for the front panel yet.

Well.... I've shot myself in the foot!

my Mobo is a Gigabyte-GA-P35-DQ6 so its ATX!! won fit!!!!


So rather then the Hiper 880w i've ordered a Hiper 670w and a Gigabyte- GA-G33M-DS2R


Hope i can overclock was well with it. :-(


shame... really like my DQ6!

I have both boards Joe, put your mind at rest, the GA-33M-DS2R has exactly the same overclocking options as P35-DQ6. It is just as fast but smaller. You can take a mac installed HDD from a DQ-6, hook it up to the DS2R and everything will work. If it does not come with the F7 bios, install it - just shows you in the bios what your clock speed will be before you reboot!

Great! thanks for that.. I get working on it whilst I'm waiting for my new parts.

with this and your SATA to USB diagram I'm just left with one cable that i cant account for.... its a 5 pin connection below the 8pin used in the above diagram. the cable is labeled 'front panel board' is that for sound? or can i just remove it.

Good to know the DS2R will perform well.. I'll look at getting some heat sinks for the MOSFETS. I'd like to retain my 3.66ghz OC.

I'll post some progress pics over the weekend.

The little white connector is for audio. This can be connected to the internal audio out on the DS2R board to get the H/Phone socket going on the front panel. I did get that going after lots of trial and error, but never made any notes unfortunately.

My current plan is to restore the look of a factory MacPro using Apple fan mounts(front), RAM cage and CPU cover to give it the Apple Mac Pro look but to Mod the Cage and Fan housing to allow for water cooling, and then create 2 mini windows over the RAM cage (where the RAM would be) to show the cooling.. maybe light it all up with UV. however I.m not a huge fan of case lights.

Case should be all running (without the MacPro look) by wednesday.

What method did you use to connect the cable from the front board to the Motherboard Powerplug? this front board is going to be my first attempt at any kind of tricky wire work.

Joe,

I used an 24 pin Extension Cable as the power supply wires have to root past the DVD drives and the PS cable is not long enough. I connected the wires to that, not the PS wire. I gently removed a little of the plastic insulator from the wire with a scalpel making sure not to cut the metal wire strands then soldered the black Apple front panel cable to each one. You need to test to make sure that you are connecting the correct Apple black wires. I used a simple circuit involving a torch bulb and battery.

If you look above, I have now put up a picture I did of the USB Header/SATA cable too.

Great! I actually ordered a 24pin extender and a 4pin Mobo extender when i ordered my other stuff yesterday. I'm really glad i did.

Thanks for putting up all these great diagrams i really appreciate it. I've been out shopping today and have bought all i need to start my MOD.

OK, the hole has been cut.. quite happy with it... i may redo the rubber edging...

Marked it out based on the IO plate for my DQ6.

Cut it out... the bottom right is marker pen not a cutting mistake.

I used some rubber edging i got off a guy at work to hide the sharpe edges.. its nicly fit.. but i may do it again.

Now im gonna cut out behind the top fan to ensure i have a enought room to feed the PSU cables.
