Hi Racerblur,
You chose a nice motherboard for a Hackintosh & although I have not used one myself, it seems to be the recommended board of choice. If your 7800 is 256 you are good to go, if it is 512 I can do you a rom that will get it to work. You will need to install the Nvidia EFI kext & also natit 0.2 dual monitor kext if you want dual screen functionality. I would also recommend a processor with SSE 3 such as a Core 2 duo. These are a lot faster than Pentiums, in fact you will find it difficult to go back to a G4 once you have used your Hackintosh for a while. Hope to hear how it goes + maybe some pics soon.

 Some Hackintosh Logo fun! =)

I have almost everything to complete my hackintosh (pro) I'm getting cooler master Hyper TX -- which will take a week to get here... in mean while... I've been playing with a logo design. I might install everything (I have everything except the hyper tx) I just don't wanna take out the motherboard just to install the cooler again, but maybe I'll just do it to see how well everything works together.... Let the Hackintosh live! Oh and enjoy my little hackintosh logo design! ;D

OK, here's my Hackie :)

Mobo: Bad Axe 2
CPU: C2D 2.67 GHz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon X1950 XT
RAM: 4 GB OCZ Platinum 800 MHz
2 SATA 160 GB
2 SATA 250 GB
2 Superdrives
850W Toughpower PSU

This is a triple boot setup consisting of OS X.4.9, XP Pro and Vista Ultimate.

It's a system with a lot of OC capabilities. Haven't OC'ed anything yet.

Everything's mounted in this:

Tried to install ATI Displays 4.5.9 using this hack, but didn't succeed, kept getting a hash type error even though I trippel checked the commands, I even copied the commands directly from the page... :(

Went on to install the 4.5.7. Installation went fine, but I can't load the ATI Displays CP from the System Preferences, I get a message that I shuold contact the developer so that I can get a newer version.

Anyway ATI D 4.5.7 is showing me this:

Hi Brainman,

Looks like your Hackie is working well, they look like some pretty respectable figures and I would think it would see off a Quad G5 quite happily. Strange to think we are building hacks that can demolish the "best of the best" from around a year ago!

I also had a problem when I tried ATI displays the same as you did. You have to smile, "Unknown ATI Graphics" I guess if the new one worked, it may well have recognised your card.

I did a bit of work on System Profiler today and improved the reporting in a few areas:

However, try as I may I cannot find exactly where "About this Mac" gets it's info from. It is not the same place as System profiler. It could well be the kernel itself, however I looked in there and cannot find anything refering to core 2 duo's, I would quite like to get my processor reporting as a "Core 2 Quad" instead of "2 x Core 2 Duo's". If anyone knows where "About this Mac" finds it's info please let me know.

Well thanks for everyones help, here it is:

You need the new version for sure. I tried the mod you linked and it works for me. I don't have a ATI card to test it on though :(

Quote:
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ sudo cp /usr/sbin/sysctl /usr/sbin/sysctl.real
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ cd /usr/sbin/
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ ls
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ sudo pico

Type, or cut and paste:

Quote:
#!/bin/sh
echo "PowerMac11,2"

then ctrl X
y
File Name to Write: sysctl
y

Quote:
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ sudo chmod +x /usr/sbin/sysctl
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ sysctl

This should now output:
PowerMac11,2

After the install remember to;

Quote:
Andy-iHack:/usr/sbin andy$ sudo mv /usr/sbin/sysctl.real /usr/sbin/sysctl

;)

OK, this is bit more of a dodge than a hack, but if your ihack has built in Audio, it isn't going to change, So you might as well show the details in System Profiler if its working.

Instructions for Showing your Audio Details in System Profiler.

Go to System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPAudioReporter.spreporter/Contents/Resources/English.Iproj

Copy Localizable.strings to your Desktop.

Open Localizable.strings copy with text edit. Scroll to the bottom where it says:

/* Message when there is no Built-in Audio (e.g., Cube, Xserve). */
no_info_found = "No Built-in Audio.";

Replace "No Built-in Audio" with "Your Own Audio Details"

Save and replace the original, Repair permissions. Re open Sys Profiler and go to Audio Section. Smile and say "I am as analy retentive as aquamac"

Okay, I can see how that would work and I see how you could mod the LoginWindow.

Your hardware overview is neat. How did you get the "Processor Name" to display what you wanted? Also, I've got "Processor Features" and I've been trying to hide them but can't. Any Ideas?

Edit: I'm using SP Ver 4.1.1 (85) &

Hi Ritalin, how you doin,

Go to:

System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPPlatformReporter/Contents/MacOS/SPPlatformReporter

Drag a copy to your desktop to work on

and open with Hex Edit,

Scroll down to the actual Processor name that your computer is currently using and edit it with the one you want, making sure you do not change the amount of spaces, as long as you leave one bit between each processor type you will be OK.

I replaced "Intel Core 2 Duo" with "Intel Core 2 Quad"

Save, then remove the original and replace back in the "MacOS" folder. You will have to authenticate.

Repair permissions, you're done. ;)

If you have a problem, it may be that the Colonels patch is reading from some other place, I did not use it, however if you email me I can send you a complete new system profiler, that will also get rid of your processor features.

Well, I just spent half a morning making these Intel "About This Mac" backgrounds for you pleasure. There is one for Core 2 Duo and one for Core 2 Quad:

No joy here :( The processor names aren't in SPPlatformReporter, must be a different version.

With invaluable help from Ritalin I've got ATI Displays 4.5.9 installed :D

My X1950 XT is recognized as a X1950 series card, though the `heading says "Radeon X1900".
What file do I need to edit7modify to get it saying "Radeon X1950 XT"?

Aquamac: Impressive work with the Sys.Pro. and ATM :D.

Okay, I got it. Now I didn't think this would work as I have already tried most versions of SPPlatformReporter from 10.4.6 through 10.4.9 and non worked! As expected it gave the "There was an error while gathering this information" error. So now here is the interesting bit (for me anyhow), I replaced:
/System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPPlatformReporter.spreporter/Contents/MacOS/SPPlatformReporter
(just the binary) with a version known to work 6.9 (from 10.4.2 for Intel I think) and Ta Da! it's working ;D
[image]
No more "Processor Features".
