hey there people,
i have a g5, i have a wavemaster mobo tray (do you see where im going with this lol), im just curious about the iec socket which can be seen in this photo http://www.s155158671.websitehome.co.uk/Resources/rear.jpeg
all the sockets i can find have these two screw mounts on the side. it doesnt look as nice as the plain square shape.
im in the uk, so any links to where i can find one would be appreciated.
cheers

hey AM, thanks for the reply.
i found one on an old power supply, so ill probably use that.
the first one is the style im after, it looks neat inconspicuous. im planning on keeping the hard drives in the stock location and the psu towards the front at the bottom, so am going to cut a small hole in the wavemaster tray underneath the fan to mount the iec connector, and then solder a kettle plug to the connector.
ive got another question if thats alright? how did you go about grounding it? i keep reading threads on the net with people who use iec connectors saying they have to ground it. im not using the stock psu, im just going to use my coolermaster modular psu. would i still have to do any extra grounding?

No you don't have to ground the case specifically, as long as the earth, live and neutral connect to the correct pins on the actual power supply you will be good to go. However, I did ground the chassis on mine from this socket just to be sure that if there is a problem the case cannot go live un-noticed. Also this is useful if you are not screwing the power supply into position and achieving a strong electrical earth connection.
Good luck.

just to make sure im on the same page, ive drawn a little pic to double check.
the red is the power cable from the wall to the iec. the green is the iec pink is the earth from the iec to a screw on the chassis the yellow is the power cable from the iec to the psu the blue is the psu
do i need to use the earth from the psu power cable to the iec, or just the grounding from the earth on the iec to the chassis, OR solder both the earth from the psu and the chassis grounding to the earth on the iec.
hope that makes sense
